Qi Gong at Something Fishy

About

Qi Gong is an ancient series of exercises developed by Taoist monks to maintain good physical health, stimulate the organs and develop the spirit.  Qi Gong is a moving meditation with breath, visualization and intention. Breath is the spirit of the body, a distilled, non-material, aspect of the body—our essence.  Where our power comes from.  We observe breath and increase our lung power with these exercises.

  • Qi means breath, energy.

  • Gong means work, exercises.

Qi Gong is designed to energize our internal organs & promote longevity.  With regular practice, Qi Gong enhances our immune system, reduces stress and increases energy.

Three types of classes

​Qi Gong

Tuesdays at 8:30 come prepared to learn a Qi Gong form. You will want to practice on your own between classes. We will Tai Yu Shen Gong (Grand Chaos Spirit Exercises), develop by Taoist monks in the Song Dynasty.

Five Element

Thursdays at 9:00 will be part movement and part five element organ correspondence theory.  In Chinese medicine, Earth is Stomach and Spleen, Metal is Lung and Large Intestine, Water is Kidneys and Bladder, Wood is Liver and Gallbladder, and Fire is Heart.  We will move to stimulate each organ its meridians and then talk about the organ from a Chinese medical perspective. We will notice which elements speak to us and learn why that might be.

Qi Self Massage and Joint Attention

Saturdays at 9:30 we learn fun ways to get moving and start our weekend, practicing joint loosening and qi self-massage.  We start at the top and work our way down with gentle motions to invigorate our whole bodies.
 

Class Info

Please wear loose comfortable clothing.

We will practice barefoot outdoors in what we are wearing. Flat sole shoes are okay.

Please come neither hungry nor full.
